Frozen II Inspired Me

I have two little girls and one boy who love Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Sven and all things Frozen! We were excited to go see Frozen II when it came out earlier this year. I remember hearing the song, The Next Right Thing and thinking, I'm gonna write a blog post because of this song! Here we are a couple months later and it’s time to release my thoughts. (If you haven't heard the song, or if you're not sure you remember it, you can take a listen here.)

As Anna sang, the despair and grief I felt was palpable. I knew what she was talking about. I had been there. Life has felt so dark and overwhelming at times that I questioned if it would ever feel manageable and enjoyable again. But as Anna continued to sing I felt hope stirring. I could feel her strength rising as she realized she could stand and take one step. She found a way to move forward. She saw a way out. The light was visible! And she started to take steps to get there.

In the song Anna speaks of not knowing how to go on without some very important people who were such a big part of her existence. She acknowledges life won't be the same without them, and recognizes she still has other reasons for living. That's a powerful truth, one we all must take to heart, especially as life takes twists and turns that we don't expect. It's not dismissing what's happened or how you feel. It's instead spitting in the face of what wants to take you out of the game, saying "no way!" My friend, there is life ahead of you not just to survive but to triumph within.

Both sisters, Anna and Elsa, are so determined and courageous. They face what's challenging and down-right scary! Because of that they discover what they were born for - their destiny. This is for all of us. We all have a destiny!

You were born to impact the planet in a beautiful, powerful way! What excites and motivates you? What makes you come alive from the inside out? Answering these questions may lead to the discovery of what you were made to be and do.

In moments you feel alone, unseen, or forgotten please reach out. Tell someone who cares how you're feeling. Isolation is a friend you should go ahead and ditch. It causes depression and loneliness to increase. Dungeons weren't made for you, they were made for prisoners who were being held captive. Go ahead and free yourself!

Anna wisely remind us, we don't need to look far down the road. Simply look to the light and take the next step. Do the next thing you need to do. Get out of bed. Take a walk. Reach out to a friend who cares about you to let their love in. As you soak up love also give it away. Focusing on other people is known to improve mental health, and as we better our mental health we positively affect our physical health too! So start anywhere. Smile at a stranger. Pay for their coffee order. Give a hug. Sometimes people just need a little love and care. Let's give and take. Be kind to yourself and others. Do the next right thing.
